On Monday, the early-season struggles for the St. Louis Cardinals continued.

They opened up a four-game road series against the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park in hopes of getting closer to the .500 mark.

However, despite a dominant outing by left-hander Jordan Montgomery, the team’s offense fell silent yet again, as they were dominated by Giants starter Alex Cobb, who threw a complete-game shutout.

St. Louis was held to six hits.

To make matters worse, the team is now 0-8 in series openers to start the season.

On Twitter, Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch pointed out just how poorly the Cardinals have fared to start the season and called for some change.

Miklasz did not specify what type of change he thought was needed for St. Louis.

But at 9-14, the Cardinals are dealing with a whole host of problems.

The offense has been inconsistent, as has the starting rotation.

However, when one thing is working, the other seems to be lacking for the team.

The Cardinals got their fourth quality start of the season on Monday and third out of Montgomery, who lowered his ERA to 3.81.

But the offense fell flat against Cobb, who was locked in from the start and kept the Cardinals off the bases.

The Cardinals had a few chances to right the ship and follow up their offensive explosion on Sunday with more fireworks against the Giants.

But for the team to get back into contention in the NL Central, they’ll need to hit more consistently and improve on the pitching side.
