The San Francisco 49ers found success during the 2022 season despite their woes at quarterback.

After starting the season with Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, who both got injured, the 49ers turned to Brock Purdy.

Purdy proceeded to lead the 49ers to a deep playoff run but fell short in the NFC Championship.

As the 49ers look ahead to the 2023 season, they will be joined by a familiar face on offense.

Aaron Wilson, an NFL reporter, recently announced that the 49ers are re-signing Willie Snead to a one-year contract.

As Wilson indicates, Snead has 279 career catches, 16 touchdowns, and 3,431 total yards.

Despite spending nearly the entire year on the practice squad in 2022, the 49ers decided to give him another shot.

Snead’s best career season was in his rookie year, where he totaled 984 yards and three touchdowns, which came from 69 receptions.

Can he make the 49ers’ active roster for the 2023 season?

Currently, the receiving room is led by Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

While the 49ers saw small contributions from other players last year, they are in search of a bonafide third option.

Snead could fill that role if given the opportunity.

However, before the 49ers start to finalize their receivers, they need to first figure out who will be throwing them the ball.

Purdy’s injury in the NFC Championship has set him back, and his return is unknown.

While Lance will be returning from injury, his status is also unknown, which is why the team brought in Sam Darnold as another option.
