The Washington Commanders made headlines during the NFL’s offseason period by declining to pick up defensive end Chase Young’s fifth-year option.

While fans are left wondering what’s next for Young and the team, Dan Graziano of ESPN provided a scenario that could play out on draft night.

Graziano highlighted that the Commanders could trade either Young or defensive end Montez Sweat during the draft.

Currently, the Commanders hold picks in each round of the draft, and their first selection checks in at No. 16 overall.

However, if Sweat or Young are available for trade, they could find themselves in a position to improve their draft capital.

Both players have found success in the NFL, but their respective injury histories are something to monitor.

If a contender is looking for a high-octane defender to join their squad, the Commanders might end up being sellers on draft night.

After an 8-8-1 record in 2022, the Commanders are leaning towards rebuilding with an eye to the future.

They weren’t incredibly active during free agency, adding just a few players while losing some key pieces in the process.

So, what will draft night hold for the Commanders?

Could we see at least one of these star defenders on the move, with the Commanders gaining draft capital along the way?

This is a substantial piece of news to keep in mind as that draft begins on Thursday.

The news comes on the heels of the Commanders’ sale, which is still impending due to a few hiccups.

The organization is due for significant change, both on-field and in the front office.
