After the Carolina Panthers made a bold trade with the Chicago Bears a few weeks ago to acquire the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, there was some question as to who they would select.
Many felt it would be quarterback Bryce Young of the University of Alabama, but given the concerns about his modest size, some thought Carolina may opt for Ohio State University signal-caller C.J. Stroud instead.
But it is now official: Young will be a member of the Panthers via that No. 1 overall selection.

Young was measured at 5-foot-10 and about 200 pounds during the NFL Scouting Combine last month, and it is rare to see a quarterback of such average size succeed in the pros.
But he does have a strong pocket presence, a nice instinctual feel for the game, decent mobility and good leadership skills.
One thing that will help Young right away is the fact that the Panthers have a legitimate weapon at wide receiver in Adam Thielen, a two-time Pro Bowler who had 716 yards and six touchdowns last season, as well as Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders, who ran for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2022.
The 2023 NFL Draft has a chance to go down as one of the better drafts in recent memory, as scouts are high on not only Young and Stroud but also QB Anthony Richardson of the University of Florida.
In addition, Will Anderson Jr. is an intriguing edge rusher, while running back Bijan Robinson is thought to have superstar potential.
