The Indianapolis Colts fanbase is heading into the 2023 season with their heads high, knowing that Anthony Richardson is their new quarterback.
When a team undergoes a quarterback change, it is typically a turning point for an organization, for better or for worse.
Although there is an overwhelming amount of support for Richardson, the Colts have to say goodbye to a member of their secondary.
According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Colts will be entering 2023 without David Vereen, who the team has waived.
#Colts are waiving cornerback David Vereen today, per a league source. The former Newberry standout was previously with the #Ravens before joining the #Colts practice squad in December. Had 112 career tackles and five interceptions in college, returning one for a touchdown @KPRC2

As Wilson highlights, Vereen was a member of the Colts’ practice squad last season.
He will not be returning in 2023, leaving a roster spot open, potentially for one of their recent draft picks.
The Colts used a second-round pick on a cornerback, selecting Julius Brents from Kansas State.
Adding a player of Brents’ profile could immediately impact the Colts, as they look to grow on both sides of the ball.
In his final season at Kansas State, Brents amassed 45 tackles, four interceptions, and four defensed passes.
Besides taking Brents early, the Colts also took Darius Rush and Daniel Scott in the fifth round, and Jaylon Jones in the seventh round.
All four of these players are either cornerbacks or safeties and will look to make their mark on the Colts’ roster.
The Colts are typically regarded as one of the league’s best defenses, which took a slight step back in 2022.
With these new additions in mind, can the defense return to its former glory, potentially making a splash in their division?
