A Familiar Name Sits Atop Early 2024 Mock Drafts

Although the 2023 NFL Draft took place less than a week ago, it’s never too early to prepare for next year’s draft.

Teams, fans, and journalists are already speculating on who could be the top pick next year, and there are already a couple of intriguing players who will be vying for that spot.

Right now, the leader in that department seems to be Caleb Williams, a quarterback at the University of Southern California.

Williams just wrapped up his sophomore season, which was his first at USC after transferring there from the University of Oklahoma.

In 2021 at Oklahoma, he threw for 1,912 yards and 21 touchdowns while starting seven of the 11 games he appeared in.

But last season at USC, he exploded for 4,537 passing yards and 42 passing touchdowns while completing 66.6 percent of his pass attempts, which earned him the AP College Football Player of the Year award and the Heisman Trophy.

Williams is also a dual-threat QB — he ran for 442 yards and six touchdowns in 2021 and 382 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.

The Houston Texans traded up for the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft by giving up their first-round selection in 2024 to the Arizona Cardinals, and CBS projects that, as a result, they will pick No. 1 and have the opportunity to take Williams.

Coming in at No. 2 in CBS’ mock draft is wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., the son of Hall of Famer wideout Marvin Harrison who won a Super Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts in 2006.

The younger Harrison, who will enter his junior season at Ohio State University, had 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2022.
