For the last 30 years or so, the Green Bay Packers have been extremely lucky, as they have featured two of the NFL’s greatest quarterbacks.

From 1992 to 2007, Hall of Famer Brett Favre was starting under center for them, and ever since 2008, that spot has been manned by Aaron Rodgers.

But Rodgers is now a member of the New York Jets, and as a result, the Packers are heading into an uncertain future where the untested Jordan Love will be their starting QB.

They had until Tuesday to decide whether to exercise his fifth-year option, and instead of exercising it, they gave him a one-year extension to keep him in Green Bay through the 2024 campaign.

NFL insider Adam Schefter outlined how quickly the Packers’ situation has changed.

Rodgers is a sure-fire Hall of Famer, and he led Green Bay to a Super Bowl championship in the 2010 season, which was just his third year as a starter.

But since then, his results come playoff time, according to some at least, have been very disappointing.

After that 2010 season, the Packers have reached the NFC Championship Game four times, only to lose on each occasion.

Now they will hand the ball over to Love, who has appeared in 10 games over the last two seasons (he didn’t play at all as a rookie in 2020) and completed 50 of 83 pass attempts while throwing three touchdown passes and three interceptions.

Love won’t have a lot of help around him, as wide receivers Davante Adams and Allen Lazard have departed over the last two offseasons, but then again, the Packers aren’t exactly trying to win another Super Bowl any time soon.
