The Seattle Mariners were stifled most of the night by Oakland Athletics starter Mason Miller, as they were held hitless through seven innings.
However, the bats woke up in the top of the eighth and scored two runs off Richard Lovelady to put the Mariners in front, where they would stay.
On the pitching side, right-hander Bryce Miller was making his MLB debut.
The young right-hander allowed just one run on two hits over six innings of work, while also striking out 10 batters and not allowing a walk.
With his 10 strikeouts and no walks, Miller joined Johnny Cueto and Stephen Strasburg as the third pitcher in MLB history to have struck out at least 10 batters and not allowed a walk in their MLB debut.

This is certainly an elite list of pitchers Miller has become a part of.
Cueto and Strasburg were both dominant in their younger years.
If Tuesday’s dominance was any indication, the future bodes well for the 24-year-old right-hander.
Miller, a native of Mount Pleasant, Texas, was selected in the fourth round of the 2021 draft by the Mariners.
The young right-hander also attended Texas A&M University.
The Mariners rookie hurler did not receive a decision in his start against the Athletics last night and was on the hook for the loss.
However, the bats picked him up and struck late against the A’s bullpen, paving the way for a 2-1 Mariners victory, which improved their record to 13-16 on the year.
The Mariners will try for a series win tonight.
