The San Francisco Giants have been struggling as of late.

After a huge series win against the St. Louis Cardinals, the team fell on hard times and lost four consecutive games, including Monday night’s affair with the Houston Astros.

But on Tuesday, veteran right-hander Anthony DeSclafani stepped in a big way against the defending World Series champions, firing eight scoreless innings and leading San Francisco to a 2-0 win, evening the three-game series.

DeSclafani also struck out three batters, allowed only three hits, and did not allow a walk.

On Twitter, the Giants posted a graphic featuring the veteran right-hander’s impressive line from Tuesday.

DeSclafani was needed in a crucial spot for the Giants on Tuesday, and he certainly did not disappoint.

The 33-year-old lowered his ERA to 2.13 on the season and picked up his third win in the process.

As a result, the Giants improved to 12-17 and remained five games back of the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West, snapping their four-game losing skid.

DeSclafani engaged in a tight pitcher’s duel with Astros rookie Hunter Brown, who ultimately exited the game in the fifth inning before giving way to the Astros bullpen, which held the Giants scoreless through the final 4.2 innings.

Still, it wasn’t enough to deter the 33-year-old right-hander as he carved his way through a very powerful Astros lineup and help deliver a much-needed victory for San Francisco.

Camilo Doval entered in the ninth inning and shut down the vaunted Astros attack, earning the save for San Francisco.
