Wednesday night was yet another painful reminder of how poorly the 2023 season has gone for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Picked by most to win the NL Central, St. Louis is off to an uncharacteristically bad start.
On Wednesday, things only got worse.
The Cardinals got to Shohei Ohtani for four runs and chased the Los Angeles Angels ace after five innings.
They came to within three outs of grabbing the win over the Halos.
However, Jake Lamb and Mike Trout homered to put the Angels in front, and then Anthony Rendon drove in a run to make it a 6-4 game.
The Angels held on to win by that score.
On Twitter, MLB on FOX took note of where the Cardinals stand after their latest collapse.

The Cardinals have now fallen to 11 games under the .500 mark.
With a record of 10-21, they now sit at the very bottom of the entire National League, which is shocking when considering the talent on this team.
This has been their worst start to a season since all the way back in 1973.
They have not found themselves this far below .500 since late in the 2007 season.
The Cardinals were heavily favored to win the NL Central at the beginning of the season.
However, they have struggled in nearly every aspect of the game and have fallen into unfamiliar territory.
There is still time left in the season for a turnaround, but that time is slowly running out as the Cards continue to search for rock bottom.
They remain 10 games back of first place in the division.
