The slide continued for the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.

After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, starter Jack Flaherty faltered and allowed 10 runs.

The Cardinals made things interesting and reduced the deficit to 11-7 but still fell short and lost their sixth consecutive game, falling to 12 games below the .500 mark for the first time since 1999.

Cardinals fans aren’t alone in being shocked over their team’s bad start.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale also appears surprised.

On Twitter, Nightengale roasted the Cardinals for their poor start, asking who “kidnapped” them and replaced them with “imposters” who are failing to win games.

At the time of the tweet, St. Louis trailed the Los Angeles Angels, 11-2, in the fourth inning.

Still, the Cardinals have yet to find their groove and are running out of time to do so.

No longer can they use the “it’s early” defense.

The team is off to its worst start since 1973 and is on pace to lose more than 100 games.

The Cardinals have not missed the postseason since 2018 and have won two division titles in the last four years.

However, they are quickly slipping in the standings and falling further out of contention for their fifth consecutive playoff berth.

They are now 10-22 and own the worst record in the National League.

Though there is time to turn things around, the Cardinals are simply unrecognizable thanks to their recent skid.

The Cards have also yet to win a series-opening game this season, falling short in all 10 of them so far.
