After three stints as a head coach for the Indiana Pacers, Orlando Magic and the Los Angeles Lakers, Frank Vogel is ready to return to work on an NBA sideline.
The Lakers decided to part ways with Vogel after the 2021-22 season, which was expected as the team clearly wanted to move on and eventually did by hiring his successor, Darvin Ham.
Vogel took some much-needed time off and, as a result, missed the entire 2022-23 NBA season.
After the hiatus and potentially not seeing any intriguing jobs last summer, Vogel has thrown his hat back in the ring, with the one-time NBA champion interviewing for the head coaching vacancy of the Houston Rockets, according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic.
The Houston Rockets interviewed Frank Vogel for the franchise’s head coaching job on Wednesday, sources tell @TheAthletic. Vogel, 49, last served as Lakers head coach from 2019-22, winning an NBA championship in 2020.

Other rumored candidates for the Rockets job include former Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka and current Golden State Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson.
Although Udoka and Atkinson are revered as some of the best in the business, Vogel has arguably the best resume of the three and is the only one of the three that has won an NBA title as a head coach.
Vogel was impressive in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and the NBA bubble that was put together by the league in Orlando, Florida.
He helped lead the Lakers to a title that year, the fourth in LeBron James’ career.
The one thing that makes this job in Houston intriguing is that they have favorable odds heading into the NBA Draft Lottery, which could land the team Victor Wembanyama or Scoot Henderson.
