Fans of the Boston Red Sox are certainly frustrated over their team being swept by the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend.

However, there are still other things to focus on for the Red Sox and their loyal fans.

In fact, today is a special day for the team and their star outfielder Alex Verdugo, as the young outfielder is celebrating his 27th birthday.

Verdugo is off to a strong start this season, hitting .299 in 157 at-bats with five home runs and 18 RBI.

He also has an impressive OPS of .865.

On Twitter, the Red Sox wished their star outfielder a very happy birthday.

Verdugo was acquired by the Red Sox in the same trade that sent Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

At the time, the trade seemed quite lopsided.

However, Verdugo has made fans forget all about Betts this season with his hot start.

The slugger made his MLB debut in 2017 with the Dodgers and was with the club through the 2019 season.

The famous trade took place in the spring of 2020.

But Verdugo has provided the Red Sox with some much-needed power from the left side and has proven to be a consistent threat at the plate and in Boston’s lineup.

His best season to date came in 2021.

That year, he hit .289 with 13 home runs and 63 RBI, while reaching base at a .351 clip and slugging .426.

And so, the Red Sox star will celebrate a special day today as he enjoys his 27th birthday.

The Red Sox are off to a 22-19 start this season and sit 8.5 games back of first place.
