The New York Mets have gotten off to a terrible start in the 2023 season.

They have a record of 20-22 and have struggled at both hitting and pitching.

With how poorly they have played they are lucky to have 20 wins.

They have been shut out the most times in baseball and their pitching has underachieved.

One player who has especially struggled is starting pitcher David Peterson.

According to Joe Trezza, Peterson has an ERA of 8.08 this year which is the highest in baseball.

His most recent start against the Washington Nationals was putrid.

He pitched five innings and gave up nine hits and six earned runs.

That was against one of the worst teams in baseball as well.

Peterson was not expected to be one of their starters to begin the year.

But due to a plethora of injuries he has been vaulted into that spot.

It appears he is not long for a starter’s role with how he has pitched so far this season.

The Mets have plenty to figure out, luckily there is still a lot of time left in the season.

While the pitching should get better once Max Scherzer returns, all the pressure will be on their lineup.

It will not matter how well they pitch if they cannot score runs.

While the season is far from over, how they play over the next month will tell us a lot about them.

They must get better production from their whole team if they want to make it back to the postseason.
