The Philadelphia 76ers are officially in the market for a new coach after parting ways with Doc Rivers.
They failed to close out the Boston Celtics in consecutive games, going back home in the second round for the third straight year.
Notably, their offense was predictable and inefficient, failing to make the most of their elite pick-and-roll duo with Joel Embiid and James Harden.
With that in mind, NBA insider Shams Charania points out that the Sixers’ coaching search process is expected to be an extensive one, and he doesn’t expect them to rush to make any decision.

He cited Nick Nurse, Mike Budenholzer, Monty Willams, and, more interestingly, Mike D’Antoni as the four names to watch in this coaching search, at least for now.
Charania adds that D’Antoni obviously has a lot of experience with Daryl Morey, Harden, and P.J. Tucker from their days together with the Houston Rockets, so the ties and fit are more than evident.
Charania states that the team will also get the insight from their stars throughout the process, so don’t expect any decision in the coming days.
It’s been a while since D’Antoni last coached an NBA team, but he’s been known for being one of the greatest offensive-minded specialists in the league for more than two decades now.
But first, the Sixers will need to figure out whether Harden actually wants to stay or not, as there would be no point in hiring his beloved coach just to watch him opt out of the final year of his contract.
