It may only be May, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to take a look at the races for the seasonal MLB awards that are handed out when the World Series is finally complete.
The American League Cy Young Award was won by Justin Verlander last season in his final year with the Houston Astros.
Now with the New York Mets, Verlander will not be in the running for the AL Cy Young.
However, there are several star pitchers who are currently in the running for the award.
On Twitter, MLB posted a graphic featuring the results of the latest poll for the AL Cy Young Award.

Gerrit Cole is currently at the top of the list.
The New York Yankees ace has re-established himself as one of the premier pitchers in all of baseball thanks to his hot start.
Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Shane McClanahan is second in the latest poll.
Sonny Gray and Shohei Ohtani round out the No. 3 and No. 4 spots on the list.
Gray’s Minnesota Twins teammate Joe Ryan finds himself in the No. 5 spot.
Ryan is perhaps the biggest surprise on the list thus far.
Gray, Ohtani, McClanahan, and Cole, have all been aces at various points during their careers.
Both Gray and Cole appear to have rediscovered their old forms, while McClanahan and Ohtani continue to get better.
The race is certainly tight at the moment, and with four months still to go in the season, a lot can change.
But it should be interesting to watch.
