On Thursday, the St. Louis Cardinals continued their winning ways, picking up their ninth victory over their last 11 games.

The team hit seven home runs against the Los Angeles Dodgers, two of which belonged to new catcher Willson Contreras.

The veteran backstop signed with the Cardinals this past offseason after seven years with the Chicago Cubs.

Since joining the Cards, Contreras is hitting .256 with five home runs and 24 RBI.

The 2016 World Series champion led the way for St. Louis with his two home runs that carried the team to a 16-8 victory.

After the game, Contreras got a chance to catch up with Jon Morosi of MLB Network, and discussed why he chose the Cardinals this past winter.

Contreras first talked about his second home run of the game and how he was irritated with the Dodgers for choosing to give Paul Goldschmidt an intentional pass.

However, he came to the plate with a little extra energy as a result, and crushed a three-run homer to put the game out of reach.

Contreras also performed a “curtain call”, which is when a player tips his cap to the home fans after a home run.

The veteran catcher recalled his first such event, which came when he was a rookie with the Chicago Cubs.

He then discussed why he chose the Cardinals this past winter, saying that such moments are what motivated him to want to be a part of the team.

Contreras also expressed his desire to win and confidence that the team is starting to turn the corner.
