It hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for the New York Mets this season.

Though they may be turning the corner after a series win over the Tampa Bay Rays, they still have a record of 22-23 and are six games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East.

Still, the season hasn’t been devoid of good moments for New York.

As a matter of fact, first baseman and slugger Pete Alonso is having quite a good season.

The veteran slugger currently leads all of Major League Baseball in home runs with 16.

He is two ahead of Max Muncy and three ahead of Adolis Garcia.

Alonso is certainly having a good season.

The 28-year-old is also reaching base at a .333 clip and slugging .539 while also driving in 37 runs and posting an OPS of .872.

Alonso is also surrounded by plenty of offensive firepower in the Mets lineup, including Jeff McNeil, Brett Baty, Mark Canha, Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo, and Starling Marte.

The slugger has been an All-Star twice and won the Rookie of the Year Award in the National League back in 2019, when he hit 53 home runs and broke Aaron Judge’s rookie record from 2017.

Alonso went deep 40 times last season and drove in 131 runs while also hitting for a .271 average, slugging at a .518 clip, and posting an OPS of .870.

So far, the former Rookie of the Year has picked up right where he left off.

The Mets haven’t quite found their groove just yet, but Alonso’s power has helped them stay afloat in the postseason chase.
