Carmelo Anthony has officially announced his retirement from the NBA.
A legendary and often underrated scorer, Anthony thrived for 19 years on the basketball court.
And while he wasn’t able to live up to the hype of that debate about whether he should’ve gone No. 1 overall instead of LeBron James, he still managed to have an outstanding career.

As Bleacher Report pointed out, Anthony made it to 10 All-Star Games and six All-NBA teams.
He was a three-time Olympic gold medalist and was Team USA’s all-time leading scorer at one point.
He led the NBA in scoring in the 2012-13 season, and is ranked ninth all-time in scoring (28,289 points), was a member of the All-Rookie team, was chosen as a part of the NBA’s 75th anniversary team, and he was also a national champion at Syracuse.
Anthony’s lack of success in the playoffs will always be a talking point and a stain on his otherwise-flawless résumé.
He didn’t handle his trade from the Denver Nuggets the best way, but he wasn’t lucky enough to have a good supporting cast around him more often than not, either.
It also feels like the NBA scapegoated him and robbed him of at least one season before the Portland Trail Blazers gave him another opportunity to prove his worth.
Anthony was a special scorer and one of the signature players in the league since being taken third overall back in that legendary class of 2003.
Now, his next career stop will be in Springfield, MA, at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
