After more than a yearlong struggle, the Baltimore Ravens signed Lamar Jackson to a long-term contract extension.

This extension made him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history when considering annual value.

Despite signing Jackson to this long-term deal, the Ravens still need a contingency plan if Jackson falls to injury.

Enter Josh Johnson, an NFL journeyman who will be on his third stint with the Ravens.

As Adam Schefter indicates, Johnson has played for 14 NFL teams, which is a record.

He was on the Ravens in 2016 and in 2021, and will now be given another backup opportunity.

Johnson will likely slot in as the third quarterback on the Ravens’ depth chart, behind Jackson and Tyler Huntley.

At 37 years old, Johnson is likely near the end of his NFL career.

Will the Ravens be the final stop in his NFL journey?

A career backup, Johnson has only started in nine games, amassing a record of 1-8.

Due to an injury to Brock Purdy in the NFC Championship, Johnson needed to relieve him last season.

In this game, he attempted 13 passes, resulting in seven completions for 74 total yards.

His career has consisted of 355 NFL pass attempts, turning into 2,280 total yards, 13 touchdown passes, and 16 interceptions.

While Johnson will not likely be remembered for his on-field efforts, his appearances on 14 different teams will not soon be forgotten.

The Ravens have needed to lean on their backups in the past few seasons, given the health concerns of Jackson.

Will Johnson’s number be called at all during the 2023 season?
