Since being called up by the Chicago Cubs, super utilityman and slugger Christopher Morel has been swinging a hot bat.

Last season, the 23-year-old hit just .235, but managed to pop 16 home runs in his rookie season.

Since then, things have improved drastically for the slugger.

Morel has played in just 11 games this season.

However, he already has hit eight home runs.

Morel homered in the top of the ninth inning on Sunday against the defending National League champion Philadelphia Phillies.

It was a solo shot that brought the Cubbies to within a run.

On Twitter, MLB on FOX posted a video of the moment.

In addition to his eight home runs in just 11 games, Morel is hitting at an impressive .370 clip, has driven in 14 runs, and has an on-base percentage of .396, a slugging percentage of .957, and an OPS of 1.352.

He also has tallied 44 total bases and has an OPS+ of 258.

Needless to say, the Cubs have benefitted greatly from the young slugger’s presence since he was called up.

His home run on Sunday couldn’t save the Cubs from a tough loss, but he managed to continue his hot streak with yet another home run.

Morel is now halfway to his home run total from last season.

The Cubs have been struggling as of late and now sit five games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central after losing seven out of their last 10 games.

However, Morel has been a bright spot for the slumping Cubs during this tough stretch of games.
