Fans of the San Francisco 49ers have been holding their breath and hoping that starting quarterback Brock Purdy will progress quickly from surgery on a torn UCL in his throwing elbow so that he will be ready for Week 1 of the 2023 season.

David Lombardi of The Athletic reported on Friday that Purdy will be at the team’s facility starting at the beginning of next week and that it’s a sign that his rehab is going as hoped so far.

This fan seems convinced Purdy will be ready for the start of next season.

This fan likes what this news means about Purdy’s progress.

This Niners fan responded with some snark, knowing that NFL players have access to the best health care professionals and medical technology in the nation.

This fan, however, threw shade at the 23-year-old.

Purdy has already been a remarkable success story in a state that is used to magical stories of people triumphing over major adversity.

He was the last player chosen in the 2022 NFL Draft, a position that usually relegates someone to being tabbed with the moniker “Mr. Irrelevant” for the rest of his life.

But once Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a season-ending foot injury in Week 13 of last season, Purdy stepped in and looked like a first-round pick who had been under center for about five years.

He showed tremendous poise, not to mention accuracy and reliability, and his stats over the rest of the season stacked up very well against the NFL’s elite and established QBs.

Alas, just when it seemed the 49ers were on their way to a Cinderella finish, Purdy tore his UCL early in the NFC Championship Game versus the Philadelphia Eagles, and as a result, his team had no shot against Jalen Hurts and company.

San Francisco is stacked at pretty much every other major position, and perhaps all they need is a resolution to their ongoing QB controversy in order to finally win their sixth Super Bowl.
