A few years ago, the Kansas City Chiefs rocked the NFL, with the storied franchise signing superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a massive contract worth over $500 million over 10 years.

Mahomes set the bar incredibly high for other star quarterbacks around the league, and now every quarterback eligible to get paid is trying to get as much as they possibly can in contract negotiations.

The latest star quarterback to sign a new lucrative contract is Jalen Hurts of the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, who agreed to a five-year extension worth $255 million with nearly $180 million guaranteed.

Following the news of Hurts’ extension, according to James Palmer of NFL Network, Mahomes reacted to the Eagles superstar getting paid.

After a rookie season that shed doubt on Hurts’ talent and capability to be a star quarterback in the NFL, the University of Oklahoma product followed that up with a less-than-stellar sophomore campaign before becoming a legitimate superstar in 2022.

Hurts blew up last season as he convinced the Eagles he could be the new face of the franchise while leading the team to the Super Bowl to face the Chiefs.

Unfortunately, the Eagles fell short in the Super Bowl as Mahomes and company won another title under Andy Reid, but Philadelphia is confident in their new leader under center and was willing to pay him what they felt he deserved this offseason.

With Hurts getting paid, the attention turns back to Baltimore Ravens superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson, who wants a fully guaranteed deal and hasn’t convinced his team to pay him what he desires.

It’ll be interesting to see if Hurts getting paid changes things for Jackson for better or worse.
