The world of baseball was in shock when it was revealed, on Wednesday night, that the Oakland Athletics will be moving to Las Vegas.
The A’s reached an agreement to acquire land near the Las Vegas Strip to build a stadium.
They said on Wednesday that they hoped to be playing games in their new billion-dollar retractable roof stadium in that location by 2027.
This left true, hardcore A’s fans completely heartbroken, as they had hoped ownership came to its senses and considered building a stadium and staying in Oakland for the long haul.
That won’t be the case.
MLB insider Chelsea Janes has a few burning questions that are still unanswered regarding the short-term future of the A’s.
“Also in here: — the A’s lease in Oakland is up after 2024. New Vegas ballpark wouldn’t be ready until 2027. Where will they play in ‘25? — will they change the name? — will their Triple-A affiliate, the Las Vegas Aviators, head elsewhere?” Janes tweeted.

These are all valid questions.
Not only do the A’s currently have no home in 2025 and 2026, but it’s fair to wonder the quality of those teams.
Ownership surely won’t want to spend too much on the roster in upcoming years.
We are already living it, and it has resulted in a league-worst record and run differential.
It will also be interesting to see if they will change their name.
Ever since 1901(!) they have been the Athletics.
From 1901 to 1954, they were the Philadelphia Athletics and won five World Series championships.
From 1955 to 1967, they were the Kansas City Athletics, and they moved to Oakland in 1968 where they won four Fall Classics.
This is a franchise that has won nine World Series.
We are also curious about what will happen with the Triple-A affiliate of the A’s, which plays in Las Vegas.
Time will answer these questions, but fans want to know.
They deserve to know soon.
