Earlier this week, the Minnesota Twins and newly acquired right-hander Pablo Lopez agreed upon a four-year, $73.5 million contract extension.

Minnesota acquired Lopez in a trade with the Miami Marlins in exchange for Luis Arraez, the reigning American League batting champion.

So far, Lopez has been a solid pickup for the Twins.

In his first four starts, Lopez owns a record of 1-1 and has an ERA of 1.73 over 26 innings of work.

He also owns a WHIP of 0.81 and has struck out 33 batters.

On Friday, the contract extension became official.

The Twins posted a cool graphic on Twitter, featuring Lopez in his new uniform to celebrate the contract extension.

After just a few starts with the Twins, Lopez will remain in Minnesota for the next four seasons.

The new contract starts in 2024 and will last through the 2027 season.

The 27-year-old won 10 games last season and posted a 3.75 ERA with the Marlins.

The trade for Lopez helped the Twins bolster their starting rotation, which already consisted of Tyler Mahle, Sonny Gray, and Joe Ryan.

Now, he’ll remain a member of the Twins for the next four years following this season.

Minnesota currently sits at the top of the American League Central, leading the division by one game over the defending division champion Cleveland Guardians.

Minnesota is 11-8 on the year and is currently tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for the fifth-best record in the American League behind the Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and Tampa Bay Rays.

The Twins will open up a weekend series against the Washington Nationals on Friday.
