When the 2022 NFL season started, some thought the Tennessee Titans were the best team in the AFC South.

Instead, they fell to a 7-10 finish, and recently there have been rumors that they may blow it up and trade star running back Derrick Henry.

But Ran Carthon, the Titans’ general manager, shot down those rumors by saying he hasn’t gotten any calls for Henry.

“It is what it is,” Carthon said Monday. “I know people have a job to do to speculate and put things out and hope that it sticks, hope that they’re right.”

As recently as 2020, Henry joined an exclusive club by becoming one of a handful of NFL players to rush for at least 2,000 yards in a single season while earning his second Pro Bowl nod, his first All-Pro first-team selection and the Offensive Player of the Year award.

But a Jones fracture limited him to just eight games in 2021, and although he put up good numbers last season, some felt he had lost some of his prior dominance.

While Henry ran for 1,538 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2022, his 4.4 yards per carry were his lowest since 2017, the last time he wasn’t a full-time starter.

At age 29, Henry is nearing the point of a running back’s career in which production historically falls off a cliff.

He has tallied over 300 carries in three of the last four seasons, which is also another indicator that a running back is nearing or past his expiration date.

Tennessee also has a big question at quarterback, as starter Ryan Tannehill appears to be over the hill after throwing just 13 touchdown passes last season.
