A Giants Rookie Is Continuing To Raise His Ceiling

The San Francisco Giants recently promoted rookie third baseman Casey Schmitt to the big leagues.

He has already played seven games, enough time for him to make a sizable impact.

However, it’s fair to say that Schmitt has surpassed even the most optimistic expectations the team had on him.

He even tied a record for most multi-hit games in his first seven contests in a Giants uniform.

“Most multi-hit games in 1st 7 career games, Giants since at least 1901: 2023 Casey Schmitt: 5; 1970 Al Gallagher: 5; 1945 Mike Schemer: 5,” MLB stats expert Sarah Langs tweeted.

Schmitt is a second-round pick from the 2020 MLB Draft, so he had loads of potential.

Even if he hadn’t quite shown a lot of power, he was having a great season in Triple-A before earning the call from San Francisco.

In 32 games and 145 plate appearances, he was slashing .313/.352/.410 with a home run and three stolen bases.

That power started to materialize in the bigs, as he is currently slashing .464/.464/.821 with two home runs in seven games and 28 trips to the plate.

He hit 21 home runs in the 2022 minor league season across several levels, so you know he has some power.

He is already translating that into MLB games, which is the best the Giants could have hoped for.

The season is long and he will probably encounter a rough patch or two.

His ability to rebound and make adjustments once MLB pitchers exploit his weaknesses will determine how much success will he have in his baseball career.

At the moment, it’s fair to say the Giants are satisfied.
