New York Yankees fans were left holding their breath on Thursday night when reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge left the game and was replaced in right field by Oswaldo Cabrera.

Judge departed with hip discomfort, which was a residual effect from an awkward slide he made on Wednesday while the Yankees were finishing their series with the Minnesota Twins.

Whether or not Judge will end up on the injured list is not known at this point.

After the Yankees finished off the Texas Rangers, winning by a final score of 4-2, Judge was interviewed and gave his thoughts on his injury and what next steps may be.

Judge was asked about what exactly he felt during his second at-bat, to which he replied that it was “a little grab in the hip area.”

The reigning MVP attributed the pain to his slide on Wednesday at Target Field.

He said that he has been feeling some discomfort on the right side of his body since the slide, but that it became more of an issue during his second at-bat during Thursday’s series opener.

Judge didn’t sound terribly concerned, saying that he and manager Aaron Boone ultimately agreed that it was best to remove the slugger from the game as a precaution.

Judge did say that he thought it would only last him a couple of days.

Finally, the slugger was asked about whether or not he thought he would play again in the series.

Judge replied by saying that he didn’t have the answer to that question.
