Adam Wainwright is currently on the injured list thanks to a groin issue that has plagued him since March.
He injured his groin in the weight room during the World Baseball Classic.
As such, the rotation of the St. Louis Cardinals has been an issue.
However, the veteran right-hander is one his way back and is making his first rehab start on Wednesday.
As he was preparing to make his start for Double-A Springfield, he noticed a child in the stands who had skipped school to see him pitch.
Upon seeing the child, Wainwright gave him a generous gift, tossing the baseball he was using to warm up to him.

Wainwright has always been a man of the people.
Cardinals fans have loved him for as long as they can remember.
Of course, much of that has to do with the fact that he has been a steady presence in the Cardinals rotation for so many years.
But he has also interacted with fans and treated them well over the course of his career.
Wednesday afternoon was no different for the two-time World Series champion.
He gave a young fan a gift of a lifetime.
That fan can now say that he not only has met one of the game’s greatest pitchers over the years, but also got a souvenir from him.
The Cardinals are planning to have Wainwright make one more rehab start in the next five days before evaluating him and deciding when to activate him from the injured list.
