The St. Louis Cardinals will soon have veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright back from the injured list.

The 41-year-old suffered a groin injury in the weight room during the World Baseball Classic.

On Tuesday, the three-time All-Star pitched in his second rehab game.

However, the numbers weren’t exactly great.

Wainwright made it through 4.1 innings, but he allowed three runs on seven hits and only struck out one batter.

On Twitter, Katie Woo of The Athletic commented on his line from Tuesday and revealed that the Cardinals are still deciding whether or not the two-time World Series champion will need another rehab start.

Wainwright responded with a strong message, expressing his excitement to pitch again and prove his doubters wrong.

Wainwright has a long history of proving people wrong.

Back in 2018, he injured his elbow during a start against the San Diego Padres, and many were questioning whether or not he would ever pitch again.

However, a change in his arm slot helped him find his old form, and he emerged as the ace of the Cardinals in 2020 and 2021.

After a poor finish to the 2022 season, Wainwright did not pitch in the Wild Card Series against the Philadelphia Phillies and was motivated to come back for one final season.

As was the case in 2018, the veteran right-hander has been counted out by many.

However, that won’t bother him as he tries to prove them wrong and show what he is capable of on the mound.

If history is any indication, then counting out the right-hander would be unwise.
