The Boston Red Sox picked up a very important win on Tuesday night against the Minnesota Twins.

The game went into extra innings tied at two runs apiece.

Minnesota jumped in front with two runs in the top of the 10th, but the Red Sox weren’t done just yet.

The team battled back and scored two runs to tie things up, setting up a key situation with Alex Verdugo coming to the plate.

Verdugo worked the count to 2-2, and ultimately lined one into the right field corner that just stayed fair and allowed the winning run to score from second base.

On Twitter, MLB posted a video of Verdugo’s clutch hit.

The Red Sox rallied to pull off their ninth win of the season and reach the .500 mark.

The play was of course reviewed, as there was some doubt as to whether or not Verdugo had kept the ball fair.

Fortunately for the Red Sox, the review confirmed that the ball was fair and that the game was indeed over.

Boston took the opener of their series with the red-hot Twins by a final of 5-4.

Verdugo’s walk-off hit was his third hit of the night and it bumped his average up to .348.

It was also his seventh RBI of the season.

In addition, Verdugo has a home run and an .880 OPS to start the season.

Boston battled back from a late deficit to pick up an important win over the Twins and will look to win on Wednesday and secure a series win.
