The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft is rapidly approaching, with less than two weeks to go before the Carolina Panthers are officially on the clock with the No. 1 overall pick.

With the clock ticking on when draft boards need to be finalized, all 32 teams in the league are doing their due diligence on prospects at different positions before April 27.

One intriguing position that will have a lot of promising young talent in the upcoming draft is at running back.

Although not at the top of many NFL mock drafts at the running back position, Calvin Tyler out of Utah State appears to be drawing interest from the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

With one of the most versatile running backs in the game in Deebo Samuel, the 49ers aren’t looking for a starting-caliber back in the draft and may be looking further down the line for a player that can be taken in the later rounds.

As for the Texans, the team’s primary focus is getting the right pick made at No. 2, which will almost certainly be a quarterback, with Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud being the likely candidates at that spot.

The Texans currently have some decent talent in the backfield with Dameon Pierce and newcomer Devin Singletary, so Houston isn’t looking for a new starter or a player that will be getting a lot of carries.

It’ll be interesting to see what direction both teams go once the draft begins on April 27 and if Tyler is an option.
