The Miami Dolphins had an elite offense last season, but their defense failed to do them any favors, especially when Tua Tagovailoa was out with injuries.
They struggled vastly against the pass, and that’s not going to get the job done in today’s pass-happy game.
That’s why they brought in Vic Fangio to serve as their new defensive coordinator.
And according to NFL analyst Cameron Wolfe, there’s plenty of optimism in the Dolphins locker room about their new-look defense and how Fangio will give them more freedom to play according to their instincts and strengths.
How #Dolphins defense has improved to set up heavyweight battles with AFC East QBs Josh Allen & Aaron Rodgers.

Wolfe explained that the Dolphins used a lot of man coverage, cover zero, and were a blitz-heavy team under former DC Josh Boyer, and that’s going to be a lot different under Fangio.
Fangio’s scheme will feature more zone coverage and less blitzing, and Wolfe cites that Dolphins star Xavien Howard says they’re confident they can be a top-10 defense next season, provided that Fangio has had nothing but top-10 defenses in his career in the league.
The Dolphins made a big splash in the offseason by adding veteran CB Jalen Ramsey.
Some think he’s lost a step already and he’s no longer the same lockdown CB he used to be a couple of years ago, but even if that’s the case, he’d still give them a big boost and an outspoken veteran leader with championship pedigree.
The Dolphins will now go against Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen twice a year, so they cannot afford to have a shaky defense.
