The San Francisco 49ers found a diamond in the rough during the 2022 season.
Brock Purdy emerged as the team’s starting quarterback after Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance went down due to injuries.
Purdy suffered a UCL injury during the NFC Championship, putting his 2023 season in jeopardy.
With his status still unknown, Purdy was recently spotted at a San Francisco Giants game, where he received a standing ovation.

As the Giants’ broadcast pointed out, Purdy had a 5-0 record during the 2022 regular season as the 49ers’ starter.
Purdy was “Mr. Irrelevant” during the 2022 NFL Draft, as he was the final selection of the entire draft.
Despite his late-round capital, Purdy was able to bring his talents to the 49ers organization, which has achieved significant success over the past several seasons.
When Garoppolo and Lance had gone down, many around the NFL doubted Purdy’s abilities, which he quickly dispelled.
What’s next for Purdy, and the 49ers’ quarterback room?
Garoppolo has moved on, as he will be the starting quarterback for the Raiders.
Much is currently unknown about Lance and his injury, and what his availability will look like next year.
Given Purdy’s injury, and the surgery on his shoulder, he is likely to miss a significant portion of the 2023 campaign.
As a backup plan, the 49ers have brought in Sam Darnold as an additional piece to their offense.
49ers fans have shown loyalty to this franchise and clung to Purdy’s underdog story last season.
As evidenced by the standing ovation at the Giants game, 49ers fans are hoping for Purdy’s speedy return.
