On April 11, Devin White requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

White has been a staple of the Buccaneers’ defense for the last four years after he was drafted fifth overall in 2019.

His trade request was surprising to many, both within the organization and to Buccaneers fans alike.

After this report was made public, head coach Todd Bowles made his opinion clear, saying “We’re not trading him, and we’ll go from there.”

The Buccaneers had an 8-9 record in 2022.

While they made the playoffs, their early exit indicated that the team had some work to do in the offseason.

Now that Tom Brady has officially retired, the Buccaneers are back to the drawing board at quarterbacks.

White’s unhappiness with the team is yet another obstacle that the Buccaneers will need to hurdle.

If Bowles’ recent comments are any indication, however, it looks like White will be around for at least one more season.

Bowles also said, “We expect him to be there when the season starts.”

This comment came after reports of White skipping offseason work with the team, both involuntary and mandatory.

While Bowles didn’t necessarily seem worried about White’s participation during these activities, he is looking forward to having White on the field.

The Buccaneers defense has been one of the team’s strong points over the past few seasons.

If White remains unhappy and refuses to play in 2023, they will surely miss his on-field impact.

What’s next for the Buccaneers, as they navigate this situation with one of their defensive stars?
