ESPN Reveals Major Oakland A’s Update

The Oakland Athletics play the Texas Rangers at a nearly empty RingCentral Coliseum on May 26, 2022 in Oakland, California. Attendance at Oakland Athletics baseball games have dwindled to historic lows as the team has traded away fan favorite players and continues to explore moving the team to Las Vegas if they can't reach a deal to build a new stadium near the Port of Oakland. The Athletics have the lowest attendance of all 30 Major League Baseball (MLB) as well as the league's lowest single game attendance for a May 2nd game that only drew 2,488 fans.

Over the past few years, there has been a lot of speculation over what may become of the Oakland Athletics.

Rumors of the team potentially moving to Las Vegas have been running rampant.

The team is clearly in the midst of a rebuilding phase and is looking to build towards the future.

However, it appears that a move to Las Vegas is now inevitable.

According to Team President Dave Kaval, the Athletics have signed a binding agreement to purchase land near the Las Vegas strip and are planning to construct a $1.5 billion, 35,000-seat ballpark.

This is a major development in terms of the future of the Athletics.

For some time, a move to Las Vegas has appeared to be imminent.

While nothing is official yet, it seems very likely that the next step will be the construction of a new ballpark out in Las Vegas, meaning the team’s days in Oakland are officially numbered.

This will leave the San Francisco Giants as the only MLB team playing in Northern California and in the Bay Area.

The A’s lost 102 games last season and finished with the worst record in all of baseball following a fire sale before the beginning of the season.

The team traded away stars such as Chris Bassitt, Matt Olson, and Matt Chapman.

Over the winter, they shipped catcher Sean Murphy off to the Atlanta Braves.

A move to Las Vegas now seems inevitable for the A’s.
