On Thursday, Elon Musk’s plan to remove blue checkmarks from verified accounts on Twitter officially became a reality, and as expected, the popular social media platform was set ablaze with reactions to the move.
Recently, after hearing that Twitter would remove checkmarks unless a user was subscribed to Twitter Blue, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James announced that he would not be paying for the service and would have his checkmark removed.
After Twitter officially removed checkmarks from verified accounts on Thursday, James still had one sitting next to his name, prompting people on Twitter to go after the four-time NBA champion again for lying about something publicly.

Although James has taken a lot of heat lately for things he’s said in the past and doing the opposite or simply deleting tweets with bold statements he couldn’t back up, the current face of the Lakers franchise might have been telling the truth on this one.
According to TMZ Sports, James’ people have refuted that he is paying for the Twitter Blue service and that he might be getting trolled by Musk due to the comments the future Hall of Famer made about it.

As always with Musk and Twitter, the plot thickens as both of these scenarios are believable, as James could have changed his mind, and the owner of the social media platform could be messing with him or trying to show that a superstar athlete is willing to pay the monthly fee.
Regardless of what happened, this will not be the end, as both billionaires are as vocal as they come when criticized or taken advantage of.
