On Monday, veteran right-hander Luis Castillo took the mound for the Seattle Mariners for their series opener against the Oakland Athletics at T-Mobile Park.
The two-time All-Star delivered a strong performance for the Mariners on Monday, pitching six scoreless innings and allowing just four hits and two walks, while striking out eight batters and leading the Mariners to an 11-2 win.
With his eight strikeouts, however, he accomplished a truly remarkable feat.
His fifth strikeout of the night put him at 1,000 for his career.
On Twitter, the Mariners posted a cool graphic to celebrate Castillo’s recent accomplishment, congratulating him on achieving 1,000 strikeouts.

Castillo earned his third win of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.97.
The veteran right-hander made his MLB debut with the Cincinnati Reds back in 2017.
Last season, the Mariners acquired the 30-year-old from the Reds in a blockbuster trade and ultimately gave him a contract extension.
Castillo is locked up for the next five years and is already off to a great start in the second year of his stint with the Mariners.
He now has 66 strikeouts on the season and a total of 1,003 for his career.
In 158 games with the Reds and Mariners, Castillo owns a record of 51-57 and an ERA of 3.55 over 915.1 innings of work.
Last season, the right-hander won eight games and finished with a 2.99 ERA after making 25 starts with Cincinnati and Seattle.
Castillo is now the ace of the Mariners pitching staff as he helped lead the team to their 23rd win of the season.
