On Thursday, an era officially came to an end.
After giving up seven runs over three innings against the St. Louis Cardinals the day before, veteran left-hander Madison Bumgarner was designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
In four starts this year, the former World Series champion and postseason hero went 0-3 and posted a poor ERA of 10.26.
The team signed him to a five-year, $85 million contract before the 2020 season.
Since joining the D-Backs, the veteran ace has not been the same pitcher he was with the San Francisco Giants.
On Twitter, a Diamondbacks fan page pointed out a shocking fact, that Bumgarner leaves Arizona after having posted the worst ERA in team history.

Over four years in Arizona, Bumgarner had an ERA of 5.23 over 363.1 innings of work.
Needless to say, the deal did not work out as planned for Arizona.
His poor start in St. Louis proved to be his final one in a D-Backs uniform.
Bumgarner will hit the free agent market once he clears waivers and be available to every MLB team for the league minimum of $720K.
But given his track record of pitching well in big games, especially during the postseason, the fact that he owns the worst ERA in Diamondbacks history is quite shocking to many.
In San Francisco, he won three World Series rings and closed out the Fall Classic in 2014 against the Kansas City Royals.
He came up to the Major Leagues in 2009 at the age of 19 and pitched with San Francisco through the 2019 season.
