MLB Insider Offers Surprising Take About Mariners Rotation

If we use ERA, the Tampa Bay Rays have the best rotation in MLB at 3.03.

Then, you will find the Minnesota Twins at 3.04 and the Atlanta Braves at 3.27.

The Seattle Mariners? Seventh, with a 3.60 ERA.

Still, MLB insider Jon Morosi thinks the M’s have, name by name, the best rotation in the league.

“While the @Mariners don’t have the best rotation ERA in MLB, I do believe that their current group of 5 is the BEST in the sport at the moment,” MLB Network’s Jon Morosi tweeted.

The statement is somewhat shocking considering the Mariners lost 2021 AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray to injury.

However, they have a bonafide ace in Luis Castillo.

The 2022 trade acquisition has a strong 2.70 ERA in 46.2 innings, and is running an impressive 28.1 percent strikeout rate.

Then, the Mariners have three young starters who will most likely dominate for years: Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and Bryce Miller.

You might be fooled by Gilbert’s 3.91 ERA and think he is not that good.

However, his 2.67 FIP indicates much better performance and tells us his ERA will likely come down in the future.

Kirby has an incredible 2.62 ERA in 44.2 frames, and Miller owns an out-of-this-world 0.47 ERA.

Marco Gonzales is a rotation stabilizer and is performing at an adequate level even if he is not a star.

Chris Flexen was removed from the rotation to accommodate the arrival of Miller, one of the best prospects on the team.

If the first five remain healthy, the Mariners have a chance to make a deep postseason run just like last year.

Their ceiling is even higher.
