On Tuesday, the Cincinnati Reds made a key investment, signing young right-hander Hunter Greene to a six-year, $53 million contract.
The contract includes a team option for a seventh year as well, which would come in 2029.
The deal is rather team friendly and comes at a good price for the Reds.
However, there are other important details of the new deal that should be considered.
According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, there are several escalators and incentives in the contract.
The escalators will be available for the 2028 and 2029 seasons.
On Twitter, Feinsand revealed what those escalators were and how the contract could end up playing out.

Greene will receive an additional $2 million for each Cy Young Award he wins, if he accomplishes that feat in 2028 or 2029.
He’ll also receive an additional $1 million for every second and third-place finish in the Cy Young race and will receive $750K for each fourth and fifth-place finish.
In addition to those escalators and incentives, Greene will receive $500K for each sixth to 10th-place finish in the Cy Young race and $200K for each All-Star selection.
Feinsand notes that there are also a number of annual bonuses for top-five finishes in the MVP and Cy Young races, All-Star selections, Gold Gloves, and LCS or World Series MVP Awards.
Greene has not received a decision in each of his first four starts this season, having posted a 4.24 ERA in those starts.
He’s also struck out 24 batters over 17 innings of work and has a WHIP of 1.53.
