This NBA past season turned out to be an absolute disaster for the Memphis Grizzlies after superstar guard Ja Morant became an enormous distraction off the floor.
Even with Morant becoming a distraction, the Grizzlies were able to secure the second seed in the Western Conference and still seemed to have title-contending aspirations, but things didn’t turn out the way they planned as they fell short in the first round of the NBA playoffs to the Los Angeles Lakers.
With the Grizzlies’ postseason ending much earlier than anticipated, changes were expected to happen in Memphis, with Dillon Brooks dominating the headlines in terms of a player that would not return to the team next season.
However, the attention has shifted back to Morant after another ill-advised incident off the floor involving a gun, which resulted in the team suspending him and the league potentially looking to make an example of the young superstar.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic via the Pat McAfee Show, the Grizzlies are worried that the NBA will come down hard on Morant for this most recent incident.

This is potentially going to be a long term suspension” ~ @ShamsCharania #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/nK2RVfIka9

It would be easy to make an example of Morant after what he’s done and the blatant disrespect to the league to basically do the same thing again in a short period of time.
The consensus seems to be that the league will suspend him for a considerable amount of the upcoming 2023–24 NBA season, and few would argue that isn’t the right way to go.
It’ll be interesting to see the way things pan out for Morant and the Grizzlies and when a decision will be made on his punishment.
