The Detroit Lions will be undermanned to start the season, as star prospect Jameson Williams will miss the first six games of the season after being suspended for gambling.
While the Alabama standout didn’t bet on NFL games, he did break the league’s policy by placing bets while at the team’s facility.
Now, the team is reportedly looking to crack down and dig even further into this matter, according to a recent report by ESPN.
Moreover, NFL insider Brett Kollmann predicts the league will make a statement out of those who get caught in this new wave of investigations.
The NFL is going to keep cracking down harder on gambling as long as they have to. The greatest threat to the league now is appearance of impropriety as it relates to gambling, so there will be no mercy here.

There’s no word on what or how the league will determine the punishments.
However, the NFLPA recently sent agents a memo that the league could track player gambling activity through sportsbook apps.
Just last year, the league suspended former Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley for a year after he placed some bets on NFL games while away from the team.
He was suspended without a salary and was eventually traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and was recently able to be reinstated after an appeal.
Ridley was originally suspended indefinitely, and some thought it was going to be the end of his career in the league.
The most ironic part is that the league is actually embracing the sports betting industry now more than ever.
However, looks are the most important part of a business, and they won’t hesitate to lay down the hammer and make an example of those unfortunate enough to be caught red-handed.
