Not so long ago, Ezekiel Elliott wasn’t only the highest-paid running back in the NFL; he was also one of the best.

Fast forward to today, and the former Dallas Cowboys star is finding a tough time getting signed, and it doesn’t seem like that’s going to change any time soon.

Earlier on Wednesday, ESPN’s Kimberley A. Martin reported that Elliott has made it a priority to compete at a high level, even ahead of money, and he’s willing to wait to get a new deal.

However, Martin adds that the market for Zeke among contending teams isn’t there and that even though GMs still believe he can be productive, they also think he’s lost a step.

The Cowboys claimed they didn’t want to insult Elliott with a new contract, but they left the door open for him, granted he takes a hefty pay cut.

They cut him and saved $10.9 million in cap space, not to mention the fact that he was due to make a whopping $16.7 million despite a major dip in his production every year.

Once a workhorse RB, the former Buckeyes star ceded plenty of touches to backup Tony Pollard, and he’s struggled to stay healthy over the past couple of years.

There’s still a chance he could be a productive backup somewhere, but now that we’re this deep into the offseason and he’s still unsigned, it doesn’t seem like anyone is going to give him a chance unless there’s a big injury mid-season.
