On Saturday, the St. Louis Cardinals picked up a key win over the Los Angeles Dodgers and moved to within five games of first place in the NL Central, a spot shared by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers.
The hero of the game was Nolan Gorman, who is quietly having a very strong season and has been one of the team’s best hitters.
After Paul Goldschmidt was given the intentional pass by left-hander Victor Gonzalez, Gorman made the Dodgers pay, hitting a three-run homer to put the Cardinals ahead, 6-3.
They held on and won by a final score of 6-5.
After the game, Gorman spoke with Ken Rosenthal about his clutch home run.
“I was just pumped up. They walked Goldy there to get to me… that emotion doesn’t come out of me a lot, so yeah it was fun.”🔥

As Gorman trotted to first base, he slammed his bat on the ground in celebration, reminiscent of Rhys Hoskins’ bat slam in the postseason last year.
The slugger said that there really wasn’t a lot going through his mind at that moment, and said that more than anything else, he was excited to have put the Cardinals in position to win the game.
Gonzalez had walked Goldschmidt to create a lefty-lefty matchup.
Gorman said that it felt good for him to be able to come through in such a key spot when the Cardinals needed him most.
He also said that the emotions that came out of him after hitting the ball don’t show themselves too often, but that in the moment, they took over as he celebrated his clutch home run.
The Cardinals are slowly but surely gaining ground in the NL Central and could be back at the top soon.
