The New England Patriots are successful most seasons due to their coaching staff.

Led by Bill Belichick the Patriots have one of the best coaching staffs in the NFL.

Each year they are one of the most disciplined teams in football, and they rarely beat themselves.

That is because Belichick hires good coaches throughout his organization.

One of those good coaches is former Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo.

He received interest this offseason for head coaching and defensive coordinator opportunities.

But, Mayo seems content staying with the Patriots as their linebacker coach.

According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Mayo said: “It would take a lot for me to leave.”

Some believe that Mayo is setting himself up to be the next head coach in New England.

Once Belichick is ready to retire, Mayo could be the next man in line.

We have seen plenty of former players thrive as coaches in the NFL.

Just recently, DeMeco Ryans was named the head coach of the Houston Texans.

Similar to Mayo, Ryans was a longtime NFL linebacker and he worked his way through the coaching ranks.

Also, Mike Vrabel and Wes Welker are former Patriots players that have been successful coaches.

Belichick does such a great job of teaching his players the game, that some become great coaches in their own right.

It will be interesting to see Mayo’s progression as a coach.

Also, if he is ever given an opportunity to be the head coach in New England.
