The Boston Red Sox entered the 2023 season down to just three holdovers from their 2018 World Series championship roster.

Those players were reliever Ryan Brasier, left-hander Chris Sale, and slugger Rafael Devers.

However, after being swept by the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend, the team is down to just two remaining members from that roster.

Brasier pitched 2.1 innings in relief after both Corey Kluber and Brennan Bernardino struggled.

The veteran right-hander struggled a bit himself, allowing three runs over that period, including a two-run home run by Nolan Arenado.

After the game, the veteran reliever was designated for assignment by the Red Sox.

Brasier commented on his recent designation, expressing sadness over his time with the Red Sox ending, but understanding the business aspect of the game.

Brasier posted a 7.29 ERA this season with the Red Sox over 20 appearances.

The 35-year-old earned a win in his only decision.

He also struck out 18 batters in over 21 innings of work.

However, the right-hander made sure to express his gratitude towards the Red Sox organization, and even went as far as to say that Fenway Park is a place that all young players dream about playing in.

Brasier’s best season came in 2018.

That year, he made his return to the Majors after having not appeared in a game since 2013, when he was with the Los Angeles Angels, going 2-0 in 34 appearances and posting a 1.60 ERA over 33.2 innings of work.

The right-hander spent six seasons with the Red Sox, but his run with the organization has officially come to an end.
