The San Antonio Spurs might have the greatest player of all time waiting to join them next season.
The expectations around Victor Wembanyama are something we have never seen before, not even for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or LeBron James.
That’s why Skip Bayless believes it’s “ludicrous” and “flat-out wrong” to put such hefty expectations on any player, even Wembanyama.
“LeBron has played so long at such a high level and is STILL going. To even THINK that Wemby will have that career is ludicrous, and it’s just flat-out wrong.”

No one, not even the most optimistic LeBron fan, thought he’d turn out to be as great as he has been.
He was historically impressive as a teenager, and he was deemed the savior and the chosen one, but from that, to actually do it is a whole different story.
Even though he wasn’t able to catch up with other legends in terms of championships, and regardless of his negative record in the NBA Finals, James has still surpassed every single expectation.
And the fact that he continues to go strong after two decades of playing at the highest level puts the bar even higher for any prospect to enter the league, Wembanyama included.
Of course, Wembanyama’s skill set makes scouts think that he has every single thing to become the greatest player to ever lace them up, and that’s not an assessment that’s commonly made.
But there are so many intangibles that could get in front of him.
Injuries, luck, being in a favorable situation, and even his desire to play for that long could prevent him from fulfilling those borderline delusional expectations.
Still, there’s a reason why scouts are that high on him.
