The Golden State Warriors just finished an NBA season that felt like some sort of last dance for them.
The Warriors started the campaign amid a lot of issues, including the Draymond Green and Jordan Poole altercation.
All these factors made Steve Kerr think that he wasn’t coaching a championship-caliber team. However, he made it clear this wasn’t the last dance for his Big 3 or even himself.
Kerr recently talked about his coaching future, admitting that things have changed around the league and planning to stay long-term with a team is no longer feasible, especially for a coach.
“I think saying five or 10 more years [of coaching the same team] in this profession is… I don’t know. It’s kind of insane, to be honest with you. Guys are getting fired left and right and there’s probably a shorter life expectancy for every coach. All I know is I love coaching, I love my job, I love these guys and this organization, so I still wanna keep doing it. I have no idea beyond next season what that means, but I’m not worried about that either,” Kerr said on The Athletic NBA Show.
Kerr knows things have been changing a lot around the league, especially with the recent firings of head coaches.
Teams are managing their organizations as a company and they don’t hesitate to make difficult decisions if they don’t feel they’re going in the right direction.
That’s unlikely to happen to Kerr after everything he’s achieved with the Warriors, but anything can happen in the NBA.
Kerr is ready to face a new season with renewed hopes, but first, the team will probably go through some changes on the roster and the front office.
Klay Thompson and Draymond Green have been mentioned as two players that could leave the team if they don’t agree to a new deal while Jordan Poole could be traded after a tumultuous season.
This is a complex situation for the Warriors, but Kerr has known how to navigate these moments, and hopefully, he can do the same again.
