The Oakland Athletics are setting records this year for all the wrong reasons.

They are having one of the worst starts to a season in some time.

But that should not be a total surprise as they were not expected to compete this year.

The A’s are in a major rebuild and have a long way to go to return to relevancy.

Oakland has won nine of their first 40 games this season.

This is the first time in 20 years we have not seen a team win at least 10 of their first 40 games.

Also, to see a team already out of contention by early May is quite rare.

But the A’s have found a way to do just that.

Oakland has problems on just about every part of their roster this year.

They rank 26th in runs scored with 159, 24th in team batting average at .231, and 22nd in team OPS at .695.

Also, their pitching has been abysmal this year.

They have a team ERA of 7.27, which is the worst in the league by almost two runs.

Likewise, they have given up 73 home runs on the year which is the most in the MLB.

The most losses in an MLB season is 134.

That was the 1899 Cleveland Spiders who went 20-134.

While the A’s should at least be better than them, they might not be much more than a 40-win team.

The 2003 Detroit Tigers went 43-119, and that should be the number we look at when seeing this Oakland A’s team.
